Scout Motors has revealed concepts for the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup truck. Scout is back. After a 44-year hiatus, the brand is showing off two new production-intent concepts, the Traveler SUV and the Terra truck, both drawing inspiration from the original Scout vehicles built by International Harvester between 1961 and 1980. But the brand will have more than just two pure electric vehicles. The Harvester is an optional extended-range energy system, a gas-powered generator that increases the range to more than 500 miles. Supercars aren’t about sharing the thrills with more than one passenger, but some automakers have made efforts to cram a third seat. McLaren’s F1 and Speedtail along with the Gordon Murray T.50 spring to mind with their unusual 1+2 cabin layout. Pour one out for the Chevrolet Camaro. The iconic pony car is heading to the big junkyard in the sky after production of the sixth-generation model ended last year. BMW is celebrating 30 years of operations in Mexico with a special-edition M2. The BMW M2 Coupe 30 Years Edition gets two available paint jobs, but unlike the normal M2, there’s only one choice of transmission: A six-speed manual. Volkswagen’s new Scout Motors electric vehicle startup just wowed everyone at the reveal event in Nashville. The Traveler SUV and Terra pickup concepts are as old-school as EVs can get, rocking a solid rear axle, mechanical locking differentials, and body-on-frame architecture, plus an optional gas range-extender. That’s all awesome, but if we’re talking nostalgia, there’s one feature that rises above the rest: the available front bench seat. That’s something you just don’t see anymore. There’s a new special-edition Subaru BRZ in town. Dubbed the Series.Purple, it gets a handful of STI-branded upgrades and—you guessed it—an exclusive dark purple paint job. Just 500 examples will be built, all with six-speed manual transmissions. The color is called Galaxy Purple Pearl, and it’s paired with a set of satin silver-painted 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. It sounds harsh but some folks doubt that Volkswagen’s new Scout Motors electric vehicle startup can build a 4×4 worth buying. The main concern they’ve voiced from the beginning is that electric-only isn’t realistic for off-grid adventures.
