Miami is well-known for outrageous architecture—hell, even the parking garages look awesome. But in stark contrast to the timeless and beautiful Art Deco buildings lining South Beach, a sleek, cylindrical skyscraper casts shadows over the shores of Sunny Isles like some supervillain’s not-so-secret lair. Porsche Design’s 641-foot-tall residential tower is a monolith. Porsche Design Tower Miami When Porsche Design teamed up with Dezer Development in 2014, the two companies wanted to build something that would stand out. And boy does it. The same company responsible for bringing the first Trump residences and resorts to southeast Florida, Dezer Development certainly knows…

You’re likely to associate Mazda with the MX-5 Miata and rotary engines but the Japanese company has a long tradition with trucks. As a matter of fact, the first Mazda-badged model, launched in 1931, was a three-wheeled open truck called the Mazda-Go. The firm’s first passenger car, the R360, also got a truck version when the K360 came out in the 1960s. Many other pickups followed, and in 2024, the BT-50 continues the lineage. A successor to the B series of trucks sold between 1961 and 2006, the BT-50 was based on the Ford Ranger during the first two generations. When…

2010. That’s when the current Durango was launched. In 2024, it’s still around, more expensive than ever. A base model starts at $39,670 but you can pay nearly triple that if money’s burning a hole in your pocket. Much like the Hammerhead launched last month, the Brass Monkey costs a whopping $113,720 before destination charges. These two are offered alongside a $113,325 Silver Bullet. Yes, there are three Durango Hellcat special flavors. The super-SUV tries to stand out with Red Oxide paint combined with a Satin Black hood and 20-inch Brass Monkey wheels. Dodge is spicing up the Durango Hellcat with…

There’s an unwritten rule about how a company’s flagship model should have the largest combustion engine. However, the Ferrari 12Cilindri is not the cream of the crop in Maranello. It’s this–the new F80. The LaFerrari’s successor has been bitten by the downsizing bug since there are only six cylinders behind the seats. As you can imagine, Ferrari is ready to defend its decision to halve the cylinder count. Chief Marketing & Commercial Officer Enrico Galliera told Auto Express that the V-12 was considered but the V-6 proved to be a better option: “We asked the question of whether we were…

Despite headwinds, EV sales are up in the US for Q3 2024.  Automakers sold 346,309 EVs in the US.  Cheap lease deals are likely one reason EV sales are rising.  If you want to understand the current state of electric vehicles, just look at General Motors and Mercedes-Benz. EV sales were up for the American automaker, with the new Equinox EV accounting for nearly a third of GM’s Q3 EV sales. Blazer EV sales were also up, and a cheaper Silverado EV and a new Bolt are still on the way. Mercedes wasn’t as lucky, with the automaker witnessing the sales…

In sports-car racing, we haven’t seen all-wheel drive in a long time. That changes with the Toyota GR Corolla TC, the newest race car from Toyota Gazoo Racing North America (TGRNA).  TGRNA made a “special agreement” with SRO Motorsports Group America, the organization that sanctions the TC America series, company representatives told Motor1. In TC America, SRO will combine the current TC and TCX classes in 2025, allowing for more flexibility in car design. The GR Corolla TC uses the road car’s stock 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine and newly available eight-speed automatic transmission. Those pair with the GR Corolla road…

Renault used this week’s 2024 Paris auto show to debut the 4 E-Tech electric subcompact crossover. The crossover serves as a spiritual successor to the popular Renault 4. Renault also launched a modern 5 electric hatchback earlier this year, making it another iconic model from the French brand’s past that has been reborn for the electric era. The original 4, introduced in 1961 and sometimes referred to as the 4L, was produced for more than 30 years and offered in a variety of body styles, though primarily as a four-door hatchback. The new 4 E-Tech (E-Tech is Renault’s designation for…

Active suspension was long a dream of vehicle dynamics engineers, and last year with the Ferrari Purosangue, it finally became a production-car reality. Porsche soon followed up with an active-suspension system for the Panamera and Taycan. But with Ferrari’s new hypercar, the world will finally see the full capability of this remarkable tech. First off, a primer on active suspension. Essentially, it’s any system that can put force into a car’s suspension independent of external inputs. Note that this is not an adaptive system, which might have features like adjustable ride height or adjustable dampers. Those systems are simply reactive,…

I recently drove the Honda Passport Trailsport—a rugged version of Honda’s mid-size crossover. Unfortunately, the tech was outdated, the efficiency was lacking, and the Trailsport badge didn’t do much to make the SUV more interesting. The good news is that there’s a new Passport on the way, and Honda says it will be hugely improved. The bad news is that Honda hasn’t confirmed the same treatment for its Passport-based Ridgeline pickup—but we can only hope an update is in the works. The Ridgeline is still a solid truck with a comfortable ride and decent capability, but much like the Passport,…

The Ferrari F80 configurator is up. There are 35 exterior color options, dozens of livery choices, a plenty of carbon-fiber body panels. Prices for options aren’t listed, but each car costs $4 million to start. The Ferrari F80 is here. In case you missed the debut, it’s the most powerful Ferrari ever, with 1,184 horsepower. You won’t find a V-12 or even a V-8 in the engine bay, though. This uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 with three electric motors to generate its power. The hybrid powertrain can send this car to 60 mph in approximately two seconds flat, and if…
